Savage Police Warn Of Suspicious Person In Area

SAVAGE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police in Savage are stepping up patrols in one neighborhood, after someone broke into a child's bedroom overnight.

Police say it happened at a home on the 4400 block of West 137th Street, but it's not the first case involving children.

Authorities say they are looking at two cases -- one from this week where someone broke into a home and another from the week before where no one got into the home but a chair was placed against a window and the screen was removed.

Both instances happened at the Hidden Valley Apartments in Savage. In the most recent case, a 7-year-old girl awoke to find a person standing in her room.

She pretended to stay asleep until the person eventually left.

"I'm more concerned we usually let Dylan play out here, sit and play bubbles. Now, we probably sit out here with him, keep a closer eye on him," said Lindsey Oien, who lives in the Hidden Valley apartment complex.

Police are now asking people in the neighborhood to keep their windows and doors locked. They think there is a possibility that this person has been in the area planning the break-ins.

"These are definitely two children's bedrooms that were both, seemed to be targeted," said Capt. Dave Muelken, of the Savage Police Department. "We've never had anything like this occur."

It does leave some uncertainty for the residents.

"That makes me nervous, because you don't know what he wants to do or she," said Oien.
