Minn. Fund Gives To Families Of 2 Killed In War

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- A military fund will mark the 10th anniversary of 9/11 by giving to the families of two Minnesota soldiers killed in Afghanistan.

The Minnesotans' Military Appreciation Fund holds a Capitol ceremony Friday to present $5,000 grants to the families of Army 1st Lt. Christopher Goeke of Apple Valley and Marine Lance Cpl. Robert Greniger of Greenfield.

Goeke, 23, was killed in Afghanistan in July 2010. Greniger, 21, was killed in Afghanistan in July of this year.

The grants mark 12,000 cash awards totaling more than $7 million for combat veterans and their families since the fund was started in 2005.

Friday's ceremony will also include awards for wounded veterans and others who served in combat.
