Opening Statements Conclude In Mpls Triple Slaying
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- Attorneys have wrapped up opening statements in the case of a Somali man accused of killing three people at a Minneapolis market.
Prosecutors say they'll use video surveillance and DNA evidence to prove that 18-year-old Mahdi Hassan Ali killed three people on Jan. 6, 2010 at Seward Market and Halal Meat.
Assistant County attorney Charles Weber says from start to finish, the killings took 1 minute 2 seconds.
He says Ali went on what he called a "mission" to rob the store and that mission left three innocent men dead.
But defense attorney Frederick Goetz says the case is all about misidentification. He says the state won't be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that his client was the gunman.
It was the city's first triple murder since 1996.
