Afton Woman Sentenced For Role In Fatal Accident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 21-year-old Afton woman was sentenced to four years in prison, on a stayed sentence, in connection with a fatal accident in Stillwater that happened in January of 2010.

Alicia Rae Haupert has been ordered to spend 365 days in the Washington County Jail as part of her sentenced. Haupert was charged with criminal vehicular homicide shortly after the incident.

According to Minnesota State Patrol records, Haupert was driving a vehicle with two other occupants on the morning of Jan. 29, 2010, when it lost control, overcorrected, rolled over and struck an electrical pole. Haupert and another individual suffered minor injuries. Andrea Zimmerman, 20 of Stillwater, died in the crash.

The accident happened near the intersection of Highway 95 and 144th Avenue in Stillwater.

According to court documents, alcohol was purchased for Haupert and the two others the day before and may have played a factor in the crash. All three occupants were under the legal drinking age at the time of the accident.
