EAGAN, Minn. (WCCO) — A family is thanking their doorbell for alerting them to a fire at their Eagan home.
Around 12:18 a.m. Thursday, firefighters were called to a house undergoing renovations at 1314 Wilderness Curve.
Crews arrived and found flames and extensive damage. Investigators said the fire started in the kitchen and spread to the entire home.
“When we arrived, we found fire coming out all four sides of the home. Fire was also coming out all the windows and the doors,” said Fire Chief Mike Scott.
A mother and her two sons were sleeping in the basement and were able to get out of the house thanks to a doorbell that activated when flames shorted it out. The dad was out of town. No one was injured.
Smoke detectors were not working because of the renovation.
The family is staying with neighbors and fire crews are investigating the cause.
