Driver Trying To Pass Vehicle Leads To Fatal Accident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 37-year-old woman is dead after a man lost control of his vehicle while attempting to pass another driver.

The St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office said the crash occurred around 8 a.m. Tuesday on County Highway I north of Valley View Trail in St. Joseph Township.

Authorities say 64-year-old Thomas E. Geistfeld, of Prescott, Wis. was driving a 2006 Chevy truck north on Highway I when 37-year-old Dawn Anderson, of New Richmond, Wis. was driving southbound.

Geistfeld was attempting to pass another vehicle when he lost control, fishtailed and went sideways, striking Anderson’s car. Both vehicles came to rest in the ditch with the truck landing upside down on top of Anderson’s car.

Geistfeld was transported to Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater with unknown injuries and later transported to Regions Hospital. A passenger in his truck, 21-year-old Cole J. Borowicz, of River Falls, Wis., was also transported to Regions Hospital with unknown injuries.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Anderson was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Borowicz was not wearing a seat belt and it is unknown if Geistfeld was belted.

The crash is under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Office.

  • just sayin

No seatbelt and he survived… huh.

Maybe he shouldn’t have been speeding!

Feel sorry for the Anderson family!

    • Mardy

People are in too much of a hurry to think that maybe you should drive defensivly

  • Joe

Slow down and enjoy life. What’s the big hurry? We’re all going to get to our destination. It’s not a race. Now look what’s happened.

    Condolences to the family.

  • Stupid haste

    Condoleces to her family also
Not sure but I suspect this will be and should be a manslaughter charge. It’s a stretch to say it’s a routine accident considering what he was doing when it happened. Feel for his family too as they also have to deal with all

  • commonsense

Another senseless death because people can’t be patient.

  • Me

Left turns from the right turn lane, U-turns from the far right lane, speeding, running red lights…what’s so freaking important that you have to put your life and the lives of others in danger?

  • Tan Pup

My God how fast was he going? That is a dangerous road. Think about the trama the person he passed must be feeling! I sure hope the excuse of the driver was that he was on his way to the hospital for a medical emergency or he was responding to a fire!

  • MAJ

At 64 he probably should have been a better driver. What was his hurry?

  • Shelly

Dawn, you will be missed dearly! Way to young and far too much to live for!

  • JBS

This guy has a history of speeding and passing in a no-passing zone. The least he should get is a manslaughter charge. There’s a motherless child today because of Mr. Geistfeld.

  • Kay

This man has a history of dangerous driving. Between that and the fact that he was attempting to pass in a no-passing zone should get him the jail time he so richly deserves.
