Driver Trying To Pass Vehicle Leads To Fatal Accident

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 37-year-old woman is dead after a man lost control of his vehicle while attempting to pass another driver.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's Office said the crash occurred around 8 a.m. Tuesday on County Highway I north of Valley View Trail in St. Joseph Township.

Authorities say 64-year-old Thomas E. Geistfeld, of Prescott, Wis. was driving a 2006 Chevy truck north on Highway I when 37-year-old Dawn Anderson, of New Richmond, Wis. was driving southbound.

Geistfeld was attempting to pass another vehicle when he lost control, fishtailed and went sideways, striking Anderson's car. Both vehicles came to rest in the ditch with the truck landing upside down on top of Anderson's car.

Geistfeld was transported to Lakeview Hospital in Stillwater with unknown injuries and later transported to Regions Hospital. A passenger in his truck, 21-year-old Cole J. Borowicz, of River Falls, Wis., was also transported to Regions Hospital with unknown injuries.

Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say Anderson was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash. Borowicz was not wearing a seat belt and it is unknown if Geistfeld was belted.

The crash is under investigation by the St. Croix County Sheriff's Office.
