Jury Convicts Mpls. Man Of Knowingly Transferring HIV
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 30-year-old Minneapolis man has been convicted of knowingly transferring HIV when he had sex with another man in May 2009, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
On Friday, a jury convicted Daniel Rick of attempted assault in the first-degree knowing transfer of a communicable disease, County Attorney Mike Freeman said.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office, according to Freeman, appears to be the first prosecutor's office in Minnesota to successfully prosecute a case of knowingly transferring a communicable disease. The new law covers any such crime committed after July 1, 1995.
Rick's sentencing is set for Nov. 28. At that time, a trial date will be set for Rick in two similar cases.
