Bachmann On Taxes: ‘Everyone Should Pay something’

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann says when it comes to the tax code, “everyone should pay something.”

Bachmann says during a Republican presidential debate in Las Vegas that she wants to encourage an “economic miracle” that came about under President Ronald Reagan during the 1980s.

But she says every American should pay some amount in taxes “even if it’s a dollar.”

Bachmann reiterated her calls to repeal a health care plan pushed under President Barack Obama and tighter regulations on the financial industry.

Hey shallow Hal, she’s talking about the fact that half the country doesn’t pay anything in federal taxes you dolt. But they get the goodies. Grow a brain you shallow stinker.

  • The Crux of the Buscuit

If Michele Bachman is actualy so stupid to believe 51% of U.S. citizens pay zero taxes then she is too stupid to hold public office.

    • Redneck Purist

Biscuit brain. Go to That a non-partisan enough source for you?

    • sad but true

I remember that President Bush speech. It was her first term and her first presidential speech she attended. Man, she acted like he was some kind of rockstar or something.

  • Bill Clintons Cigar

Everyone should pay for the welfare they suck on for life! I work to pay them! Let them pay some taxes! I am sick of carrying the load! And I am not rich!

    • gtV

      @ BC’s cigar
With the exception of hard-core GA recipients, everyone is subject to filing and paying taxes on assistance, Social Security, unemployment, pensions, and the like! The lessor the income you receive the lessor the deductions or tax loop holes you are eligible for taking off the taxes.

That’s why many major corporate CEOs hardly pay any state or Federal income taxes. They have plenty of deductions/loopholes to take advantage of. Think about it while you smoke that ‘Reagan’ or GOP T-Bagger Cigar!!!

  • g

    everyone should pay taxes-duh.

  • Pavel

Interesting. She thinks everyone should pay some amount of taxes, but wants to continue the massive reduction in taxes on the very wealthy passed under G. W. Bush.

In most states (the ones which have sales tax like Minnesota) everyone does pay taxes.

It is time this carpetbagger gets thrown out of office. She has done nothing in her years as an elected member of congress. In fact she has one of the worst participation records of all members for the last year.

    • James

Pavel, carpetbagger is a tough word you big feather duster. If sales tax was enough, then I guess you’d agree we don’t need an income tax of any type. Then maybe Cain is your man?

Lots of folks on here seem to believe that everyone pays taxes, no matter what. I would say please do your research. If you make $5,350 per year, you’re single, or you’re married filing separately, your standard deduction is 100% of your income. … meaning you pay $0 in federal income taxes right out of the gate.

With this basic information, extrapolate that out to larger income federal tax payers… Someone making $10,000 per year automatically gets a pass on over 50% of their income. Someone making $20k gets 25% off their taxes, $50k per year would get 10%, and so on.

With that knowledge, most people understand that the standard deduction is only a starting point, and that as you add on other deductions for children, education, mortgage interest, making work pay, etc, it’s very common for people to not only pay 0% of their yearly income in federal taxes, but to get a tax credit (A check from the government) or money back from the government without paying a single dime to support the system.

Demographics alone will suggest that people on “the dole”, welfare, unemployment insurance, etc will not make enough money to pay a single dime into the system.

Cain’s plan of 9-9-9 would at least require everyone to pay something, therefor creating an environment where increasing the tax burden affects everyone more proportionately than the existing tax code that affects a much smaller percentage of the population (mob rule). In Cain’s plan, you’d see a lot more resistance to raising taxes at all because everyone would have something to say about it.

That’s the fundamental basis of Bachmann’s position sir.

      • Frankie

@ jamesI If Pavel is a feather duster yoou would be a bat..
Those who say the poor pay no taxes is to ignore gas tax,,, salles tax,, tobacco tax, excise tax.
Those that support the 999 plan forget the plan does not even match the current revenue, pperhapsss more fairly it would be called the 11/11/11 plan.
wipe out small business, continue to hack on the middle class

        • SO SAD

But Frankie, poor people on welfare do not pay for gas tax, sales tax, etc. – we do. And, not only do they not pay taxes, they get a tax return (money back) every year. Just think how many millions we would save if welfare recipients had to file but receive nothing back.

  • Joe

And does anyone realize what his 9% will do to small businesses? 9% on ALL INCOME, minus ONLY PRODUCT you need to purchase. How about SALARIES! That is the biggest expense for small business – suddenly you have to pay 9% on all salaries? That is a HUGE burden on the “job creators”. I’m sure the companies that can keep off-shoring their accounting won’t have to worry about this of couse.

  • Mike

That 9-9-9 plan would include 9% on clothes, groceries, food, medicine and services. The only people who would benefit are those that make over $80k a year.

  • John

    Forget taxes.

It’s spending that is the problem.

Ron Paul is the one who wants to eliminate entire cabinet departments. Yes…shrink government.

  • Taxes

Wrong there John – forget Michelle Bachmann and let the others move ahead.

“Moms-hold onto your husbands, Do not let them stray. Leash them if need be and they want it done (lol). Do whatever they want of you for they are truly your master and you are the servant”

    • Murph

Is that you Marcus? Sure sounds like it!
