Gophers Sign Coach Kill To 7-Year Deal

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The University of Minnesota has signed Jerry Kill to a seven-year contract to coach the Golden Gophers football team.

The deal, which is retroactively effective from last December and lasts until February 2018, was announced Tuesday morning.

Kill had been working under the terms of a memorandum of agreement since he began in 2010.

University director of athletics Joel Maturi said he was happy to secure Kill to a long-term deal.

"He has proved over the past 10 months what a great fit he is at the University of Minnesota and I have been very impressed with him as both a coach and a person," said Maturi. "We are lucky to have him and I am thrilled that we now have an agreement in place that has secured Coach Kill as our head football coach well into the future."

Kill is the 27th person to serve as head coach for the Gophers football team.

"I'm glad it's now settled and we can move on from here. We are excited about the future of our program," said Kill.

The Gophers are currently 1-6 for the 2011 season, including a 58-0 loss against Michigan.
