Pedestrian, 90, Dies After Being Struck In Winona

WINONA, Minn. (AP) — Winona police say a 90-year-old woman has died after being struck by a vehicle as she crossed a downtown street Saturday.

Deputy Police Chief Tom Williams says the woman was pushing a combination cart and walker in the marked crosswalk when she was struck Saturday morning.

KAGE-AM reports Evelyn Shiel was taken to a Winona hospital, and then flown to a Rochester hospital where she died.

The Minnesota State Patrol is being called in to help investigate.

My prayers go out to this womans family, may God be with you at this time and help you get through the days ahead. You see I to was hit in a crosswalk several years ago, and God Bless the Angels for helping me, but I am now disabled. I have you all in my prayers. God loves you always.

This may sound callous, but as the son of a woman (age 70) who died a slow death in a hospital, getting hit in the crosswalk at age 90 is not a bad way to exit. God speed you on your journey.
