Police: Eden Prairie House Fire Injures 3 Firefighters

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn (WCCO) -- Three Eden Prairie firefighters are in the hospital after a house fire Saturday night, authorities said.

Flames poured out of a house on the 13000 block of Caramel Trail at around 6 p.m. When firefighters got to the house, they found the family standing outside unharmed.

Eden Prairie Fire Chief George Esbensen said that firefighters were able to protect most of the house from the fire, but that the garage had been fully enveloped in flames.

Esbensen said his crews put out the fire in the garage and were working on the hot spots on the roof when it gave way.

"We had a partial ceiling collapse in the interior and that caught one of our crews," Esbensen said.

Falling debris hit three of the firefighters, who were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Esbensen said.

Investigators believe the fire started outside the garage.

The home has extensive fire and water damage.
