Twins Blog: Terry's Back!

If fans ruled the sports world, today's events would have happened a year or so ago. There's been "philosophical differences" between the fans and Mr. Smith since almost Day 1. Now those differences crept into the Twins Front Office.

At the presser this afternoon, those differences weren't discussed. They would just say Smith and the rest of the Front Office weren't "on the same page."

Did Smith want to setup the skeleton that is the 2012 Twins Team to win or did he want to rebuild? Did Smith want to bring back Nicky Punto's World Series veteran leadership? Did he want to resign Cuddy to a Pujols-esque contract? Did the Front Office finally realize J.J. would have been a better option than Nishi last year?

What do you think the "differences" were?

Now the beloved Terry Ryan is back and the fans are rejoicing. Ryan coming back answers one question ... he's there to rebuild the team. The farm system has been depleted and there hasn't been much done to replenish it. That's Ryan's specialty. In the presser today, Ryan said the 2012 payroll will be around $100 million. That gives him about $20 million to work with this off season.

Here's hoping Ryan can work some of his farm system, prospect mining magic because it doesn't look like free agency is going to be the answer to the 99 loss season.
