Woman Who Died On I-94 ID'd

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities have released the name of the woman who they say purposefully laid down on Interstate 94 Thursday morning and died after being hit by multiple cars.

Melissa Lewis, 38, of Minneapolis, died around 6:40 a.m. on the interstate, authorities said.

Crews were reportedly aware of the Lewis' presence on the road and were rushing to the scene. But they were not able to reach her in time.

Investigators closed all three lanes of eastbound I-94 north of 7th Street. As a result, the morning rush slowed to a stop.

The State Patrol said they are seeking two drivers they believe were involved in the incident — one was driving a smaller car and the other a pickup truck.
