MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The Mall of America deconstructed the ride formally known as the “Mighty Axe.”

The ride, currently known as “Tak Attack,” had its named changed once the park was re-branded as Nickelodeon Universe.

Crews started taking it down around 11 p.m. Monday and finished up in a few hours.

The ride opened in 1998 when the park was then called Camp Snoopy.

The ride was famously involved in a malfunction back in 1998 when it came to a stop and riders were stuck upside down at the very top for more than a half hour.

The Mall of America said the deconstruction will make way for a new ride opening in March.

Details on that ride will be available at later time.
