MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — The General Manager of KEYC-TV in Mankato, Minn. is addressing the rumors about one of the station’s anchors being intoxicated on TV.

In a video posted online of the station’s 10 p.m. newscast on Dec. 4, Annie Stensrud could be seen struggling to get her words out as she anchored the show.

The video went viral as people from across the country speculated that she was drunk.

The station hadn’t addressed the incident until Friday when General Manager, Dennis Walhstrom talked with WCCO Radio about the incident.

WCCO’s John Williams Interviews KEYC-TV GM Dennis Walhstrom

Walhstrom said that Stensrud had “been sick.” He said she was taking medication and missing a lot of work, but wanted to get back on air. On the day in question, he said she was not drunk, but in fact, had a bad reaction to the medication.

Wahlstrom said social media had a “knee-jerk” reaction to the video. He admits that Stensrud probably should have called out sick that day, but declined to reveal her medical issue.

Why not? i thought she was kinda cute. Her outfit was not bad either. Hope she is feeling better and it is nothing serious.

  • Al

Forget about Maggie, that weathercaster was out of control.

    • Chublike

The weather guy, Mitch is HOT!!!

  • Stacy

Her appearance alone was enough to suggest something wasn’t quite right with Annie that night. She is normally very professional in both appearance and performance. Knowing several people that work at KEYC, I “heard” she wasn’t drunk, but I do wonder why it took everyone so long to make a statement to that effect.

Speculation aside, Annie Stensrud is very good at her job, and I sincerely hope this does not define her career.

    • At what job?

Good at what job there? The on camera one? The behind the door one? The after hour one? You need to be more specific when making statements

      • Kate

Um, she’s the anchor/reporter, whose job performance is now in question. Not so sure Stacy needed to be specific, when it’s fairly obvious what the woman’s job is.

  • Sandy

Bologna, she is lit up like a Christmas Tree, drunk as a skunk, three sheets to the wind! My old hairstylist tried the “sick” excuse too, until she was canned for drinking on the job. Drunk people think we actually believe their lies.

    • tom tom

Agree!!! We are all supposed to hang our heads in shame for laughing at a sick person…sick my ass!! She was BLOTTO!!!

  • Jake

It seems like a reaction to medication. If one watched the whole newscast, she starts out fine and then gets progressively woozie.

  • Crazy Joe

Looks like the people of Wal-Mart delivering the news and weather.

  • better

    right here

  • flanders

    ha ha no kidding

  • Barry Wood

Will the one who has never stuttered, been sick or otherwise had a tough day cast the first stone?

I have to give her credit for at least showing up, even though she clearly was not operating at 100% for that newscast….and for sticking it out. Many people in her situation would have given up halfway through and walked off the set, leaving the rest of the news & production staff in the lurch.

How about a little Christmas spirit here, people?

    • Amy Senser

Consider it cast – and not just a stone but a 2 ton boulder

  • Deep Thinker

Honestly Mr. policeman, I’m not drunk, it’s just a bad reaction to my medications. I will dirve crooked, I mean straight home from here

  • good old don

If WCCO wanted to show an anchor drunk during a broadcast, they should have shown some old footage of their own Don Shelby. That was a classic!

  • Philip

Where is the doctor’s statement to verify this claim? What active ingrediant caused this? If this is a possible side effect, should not the public be warned or is that not the job of the media?

  • Lori

I don’t think she was drunk. She was fading as we were watching! You can see her just trying to keep going. Poor young woman will have to live this down for a long time, This is my regular news channel we watch and she is normally very sharp. Obviously she wasn’t well.

  • Janis

Belive me, that urine cup will be right there waiting as she walked off the set. They will know what she had in her.

  • maryjane

Man you people are harsh. Cut the woman some slack – she was sick, she’s dedicated to her job and like countless others she went to work not feeling 100%. I think the GM is an ahole for throwing her under the bus like that. Ultimately, the end product is his responsibility – and he’s a wimp for putting the blame on her. I hope she’s ok and gets a better job with a more professional boss.
