BLAINE, Minn. (AP) — Rochester will host the 25th anniversary Star of the North Games next year.
Minnesota’s annual Olympic-style amateur sports festival will be held June 15-24, 2012. More than 4,500 athletes from across the state are expected to compete in 18 sports.
Baseball, basketball, BMX cycling, figure skating, tennis and volleyball are among sports tentatively on the schedule for the 2012 Games.
The final sports schedule with event dates will be announced in December. Registration for team sports opens next February. Athletes can begin registering for individual sports in March.
Due to scheduling conflicts in Rochester, two sports — swimming and diving — will be held in St. Cloud next year.
Game officials also have launched a new website at starofthenorthgames.org.
