Funeral Arrangements Set For Slain Lake City Officer

LAKE CITY, Minn. (WCCO) -- The funeral arrangements for Officer Shawn Schneider have been set.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Lake City. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, also at First Lutheran Church. Rev. Darren Paulson will officiate.

The burial will be at Lakewood Cemetery.

Schneider, a 32-year-old father of three young children, died Friday after suffering a gunshot wound to the head earlier this month.

Twenty-five-year-old Alan J. Sylte Jr. shot Schneider on Dec. 19, after Schneider responded to a domestic disturbance involving a handgun. Sylte's body was later found inside the residence.

Schneider succumbed to his wounds at around 5:30 p.m. at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, according to the Wabasha County Sherriff's Office.

Schneider, who served the Lake City Police Department since 2003, is survived by his wife and three children.

A fund has been set up to help Officer Schneider's family. Donations can be sent to:
