Stoudermire Gets Medical Hardship Waiver, Granted 1 More Year
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – University of Minnesota football player Troy Stoudermire got some great news on Friday.
Stoudermire was granted a medical hardship waiver from the Big 10 Conference, meaning the senior was given one more year of athletic eligibility with the Gophers. Stoudermire broke his arm early in the season and didn't play again after the Gophers lost to North Dakota State at TCF Bank Stadium.
Before he got hurt, Stoudermire was one of Minnesota's best players in the defensive secondary. He was also the team's most dangerous threat in kick returns. He has the Big 10 and Gophers' records for career kick return yards with 3,102.
Stoudermire moved to the secondary in the middle of the 2010 season after previously playing at wide receiver.
"This is great news for Troy and for our program," said Gophers coach Jerry Kill. "I'm really excited for Troy and glad to have him back with us next season."
"I'm just excited and happy," Stoudermire said. "I've been waiting on this thing for a long time. Now, I'm just looking forward to getting back there for my first workout and getting back with the team."
In four games before getting hurt last season, Stoudermire recorded 14 tackles, including three for a loss. He also had two interceptions and three pass break-ups.
