MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Minneapolis Police are searching for a person who stole a van with a developmentally disabled 10-year-old child still inside.

According to Sgt. Bill Palmer, the van was stolen near the 3100 block of Fourth Avenue South early Thursday morning.

The van’s driver had left the vehicle running and was going inside to get another child from a different residence when the theft happened.

Police said the person who stole the van then dropped the child off a few blocks away before driving off.

A WCCO-TV photographer reported seeing the van crash into a pickup truck at Interstate 35W and 4th Street Southeast. The van fled the scene.

At 6:30 p.m., the van was found unoccupied.
