LA CROSSE, Wis. (AP) — Officials at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse say students were evacuated from a residence hall after an early morning fire in a basement recreation room.

No one was injured in Sunday’s fire at Drake Hall. The school says on its website that smoke alarms went off at 4:23 a.m. and the students were evacuated.

On Sunday afternoon, officials were escorting students to their rooms so they could pick up personal belongings they would need for the next 24 to 36 hours.

Students were told to report to Eagle Hall for information on temporarily relocating.

Investigators say the fire started in a couch. They are still seeking the cause.
