MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A fundraiser for the Lake City police officer killed in December raised more than $2,300 for the officer’s family, which includes his wife and three young children.

Patrol Officer Shawn Schneider, 32, was shot in the head on Dec. 19 by a 25-year-old gunman while responding to a domestic disturbance. He died on Dec. 30.

The fundraiser held for Schneider’s family was called the Blue Light Bulb Fundraiser.

According to Brandon Chaffins, the Douglas County deputy sheriff, more than 200 light bulbs were sold at the event.

The Douglas County Deputy Sheriff’s Federation will send a check for the full amount raised at the event to Schneider’s family, Chaffins said.

  • Keep It Real

Sad that a police officer, killed in the line of duty, only gets $2,300 raised. Versus a rich, white kid from a private school in the metro who has had 100s of thousands raise. What does this tell you about rich, white peoples priorities?

For your information, this is the first of many fundraisers for his family. They made $2300 selling lightbulbs. Impressive.

What exactly does this have to with race or even economic status? I’ll bet the officer never inquired about either before rushing to help someone.

As always, the first one to bring up race calls everyone else a racist. How many of your Chip on the Shoulder society went down and bought a lightbulb?

He was on duty, so wouldn’t work men comp pay for most medical and other expenses.

  • Bad People

I agree Keep it Real!! As far as work comp goes, no it does not cover everything. Three children will be without their father as result of his bravery and money will only be there for a short time. As far as the comment from Scott goes, How many people treat Cops poorly?? Yes there are bad cops out there but there are more bad people then bad cops! Also I have never met a cop who abused their power. Treat them with respect and you will be treated with respect in return. Oh one more thing Scott- Am sure you have never been treated poorly by a doctor, nurse, lawyer, judge, Salesclerk, waiter/waitress, insurance agent, and many more…… Schneider was a great guy and a great cop!!

  • Weak!

What a pathetic show of support for someone serving the community. Pony up Minnesota!
