Gophers To Play Siebert Field Finale On May 1

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The Gophers will celebrate their baseball program with an official final game at deteriorated Siebert Field.

Head coach John Anderson announced Thursday that Minnesota's game on May 1 against Division III St. Thomas will be moved from the Metrodome to Siebert Field. Opened in 1971 as Bierman Field and renamed in 1979, the stadium is on the north side of campus on the edge of an aging industrial area filled with railroad tracks.

With conditions deemed unfit by the school for significant use, the Gophers have made the Metrodome their home field in recent seasons. Anderson has led a fundraising push for a new facility on campus.
