MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police are investigating after a 2-year-old boy nearly lost his life in a drowning incident at a Grand Rapids hotel on Wednesday, according to authorities.

Grand Rapids Police were called to the Sawmill Inn on the 2300 block of Pokegame Avenue South at about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday on a report of a possible drowning. When officers arrived, a 2-year-old boy had been pulled from a hot tub and CPR was in progress.

Grand Rapids Police said the boy was at a birthday party at the hotel and wandered off. Authorities said he was gone for only a few minutes before people at the party noticed and started searching.

The child was immediately stabilized and taken to Grand Itasca Hospital before later being transferred to St. Mary’s Hospital in Duluth. Authorities said the child is currently in critical condition.
