Smalley’s 87 Bar Closing Sunday, Getting New Management

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Smalley’s 87, a popular downtown Minneapolis bar for Minnesota Twins fans before games, confirmed Friday that it will be closing its doors on Sunday.

Officials with the bar said they will be closed for two weeks while they undergo a change both in management and their name. The bar is scheduled to reopen March 1 under the name “The Alley Sports Tavern.”

Current employees of Smalley’s 87 can reapply for their jobs at the new bar. A bar manager didn’t say what all is changing at the bar, but that there are some indoor and outdoor renovations that will be taking place.

Smalley’s 87 was named after former Twins star Roy Smalley, who played on the 1987 World Series championship team.

Changing the name yet again will not help. Champps, Smalleys, The Alley, next…

Change the name to protect the guilty and serve Bad food.

  • Where ya going Roy?

Amazing how Mark Rosen has enjoyed a long steady restaurant life downtown but Smalley’s doesn’t even last 2 years. Or maybe Senser is buying it from Roy. Amy could work there.

Stay away from the Alley. The food tastes like it came from the frozen food isle at Sam’s Club. For the $10.00 they charge for a basic burger you can do much better at the Loon next door
