7 Babies Welcomed On Leap Day

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Feb. 29 is "Leap Day" for all of us, and a birthday for some.

So far, seven babies joined that club Wednesday at Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park.

The first was little Sophie. She was born at 1:41 a.m. after about four hours of labor.

Her parents were well aware of the significance of the date.

"I was watching the clock as we got close to midnight. I don't think we're going to make it. Not that we were shooting for that," said Nikki and Mark Arness, of Apple Valley.

Sophie's parents plan to celebrate her birthday on March 1 on non-Leap Years.

Her 2-year-old sister was also born on a holiday, Valentine's Day.
