MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A Maple Grove couple just couldn’t wait to meet their new bundle of joy — in fact, they didn’t get make it through the front door of the hospital.
Elissa Simonson said she started having contractions around 10:15 a.m. Tuesday, about seven minutes apart, and decided she and her husband Josh should head to the hospital.
They were nearly there, walking up to the door, when Elissa grabbed her husband’s arm, and said it was time — she had to start pushing because the baby wasn’t going to wait any longer.
Her husband Josh ran inside the hospital to find someone to help while Elissa found a spot behind a bench to lay down. When Josh came back — minutes later — Elissa had already delivered the baby by herself.
Staff from the Maple Grove Hospital came out to assist and found both mom and baby, happy and healthy.
McKenna Rose was born at 5 pounds, 9 ounces.
This is the couple’s third child. They said their last baby was also born small and the delivery for that birth went very fast, as well. Still, they said they were surprised this time they weren’t even able to make it in the door.
