No Injuries As Train Derails In Moorhead

MOORHEAD, Minn. (AP) — A couple blocks in Moorhead are closed after a train carrying corn went off the tracks.

The Moorhead Police Department says the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway train derailed shortly after 7 p.m. Saturday along 1st Avenue North. The train was heading into Fargo, N.D.

BNSF spokeswoman Amy McBeth says 23 cars derailed, but most remained upright.

First Avenue North remains closed Sunday between 7th Street and 3rd Street for cleanup.

Police say there were no injuries and damage was limited to the BNSF property.

McBeth says workers are cleaning up spilled corn and repairing tracks and cars. The incident is being investigated and it could be a couple days before the track is reopened. BNSF is using another route.
