Charges: Man Shot At Cops After Fight With Brother

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 39-year-old West St. Paul man is accused of shooting at two police officers after a fight at his home with his brother Sunday morning, according to charges filed Tuesday in Dakota County Court.

Justin Thadeus Amick was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and felon in possession of a firearm in connection with the incident.

According to a complaint, Inver Grove Heights Police were called to the 7500 block of River Road at about 4:43 a.m. Sunday after a resident reported hearing about five gun shots south of his residence. When authorities arrived, they located a vehicle parked on the street with a man and a woman, both in their 30s.

The man, later identified as Amick, had previous run-ins with police. An officer approached the vehicle and told Amick to show his hands. He refused to comply. The reporting citizen then started to walk up to Amick’s vehicle. Amick then put his left hand outside the driver’s side window and pointed a hand gun at the officer, according to the complaint.

The officer took cover and heard gun shots. Police did not return fire in fear of hurting the female passenger in the car. Commands were repeatedly given to Amick to drop his weapon. He finally did, then fled the scene. Authorities recovered a .380-caliber semi-automatic pistol that was not loaded. Neither officer was hit our hurt in the shooting, the complaint states.

Officers then responded to Amick’s residence, where Justin Amick was arrested after going into the woods behind the residence.  The woman in the car with Amick during the shooting was at the residence. She told police he got in an altercation with his brother at the residence earlier in the day and bit his brother.

Amick told police he did not remember biting his brother. When police told him he fired a gun at officers, he didn’t deny shooting the gun but said he didn’t remember, according to the complaint.

He also said “I’m sorry for what I did” and asked an officer to kill him. Amick has two previous convictions for harassment, one in 2009 and the other in 2000.

If convicted on the current charges, he faces more than 60 years in prison.

I think its time for a trip to Stillwater. Enjoy your stay and see you in about 60.

    • I wish...

…They would have given him his request. No need to pay for a trial and housing, he deserves to die.

Where’s his “friend’ that was posting yesterday; claiming he was set up? I wish the ‘friend’ would hurry up their inevitable overdose. All trash.

      • Friend

BTW, it is so nice to hear you missed me. As for my inevitable overdose, not going to happen. I do not do drugs nor do I even drink. So that wish is not going to come true. It is sad that you are so ignorant that you would wish death on someone you don’t even know. But what did I expect, you are not any better than Justin. Probably trash from the same dumpster.

      • Friend

I am right here, and as I said yesterday dumb a$$ he is as guilty as guilty gets. I also said there is no reason for the media to put everyones business out there for their profit. We live in America where everyone is innocent until proven guilty and yes he will be proven guilty, but the media has no right to do what they do. For example the girl he was with, her mugshot is all over the media but yet she was just a victim in all of this. That is the part that upsets me. But you and your ignorant a$$ doesn’t understand anything between the lines. You are so quick to judge every situation before any details came out.

    You sound more like a 8915 ( cook )

    • Marine 0311

Nope 0311 26 years retired last year.

      • Marine 0311

Wow you’re old. We don’t even call them that anymore.

        • AW

You wouldn’t make a good pimple on a Marine Grunt’s ass!

          • Jarhead

Nope sorry to burst your bubble. 26 years proud of everyday. You are giving the usual response to my service when you hear something you don’t like. I bet you are a wanna be, susbcribe to soldier of fortune, go out with your loser buddies, and play paintball. Get a life.

    Model Citizen ? ? ?

  • shelby

Not a funny comment … just sounds ignorant

  • GH

That sounds like a death threat to police. Maybe they should track your comments and come have a little chat with you. It is possible so don’t think you are safe behind your little computer.
Maybe we could say the same about you and the so called time you spent in the Marines. Too bad someone didn’t have better aim when they were shooting at you!

    • JeffS

Don’t worry, GH. The same guy has posted under the name Andy, Marine0311, J, Jarhead, and others too, I’m sure. You can spot his idiotic cop-hating and claims to the Marine Corps a mile away. He seems to have some special hate for the State Patrol, or as he calls them, “glorified ticket givers.” And he likes to lob insults and sarcasticly refer to every “genius” who points out his misconceptions. You can’t reason (or even argue) with a guy who’s spent the bulk of his life in the military doing only what he’s told to do. One can only wonder what he did to find himself on the wrong side of the cops. After all, the only person who hates a cop is a criminal.

      • Jarhead

How about the guy in Burnsville who was jailed for not putting siding on his house, or Kelly Thomas’s father after his son was murdered by the Fullerton PD, or Marie curlpepper the Sunday school teacher who was murdered by the Virginia highway patrol. You’ re right on ly criminals hate cops. As I pointed out before I have had one speeding ticket in my life. Nice try once again.

  • Kevin

St Paul…..come for the fun….stay for the shootings……..
