Vikings Awarded Pair Of Compensatory Draft Picks
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings have been awarded two compensatory fourth-round selections for the NFL draft next month, 128th and 134th overall, giving them a total of 10 picks.
The Vikings were expecting this, but the extra selections weren't confirmed by the league until Monday. Compensatory picks are awarded to teams with a net loss of unrestricted free agents, determined by a formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors.
Defensive end Ray Edwards, linebacker Ben Leber, quarterback Tarvaris Jackson and wide receiver Sidney Rice left last year, and the only significant free agents the Vikings signed for 2011 were defensive tackle Remi Ayodele and offensive tackle Charlie Johnson.
Also Monday, the Vikings confirmed the signing of Geoff Schwartz, who agreed to terms last week. He could start at right guard.
