MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified the person who died after getting hit by a car while crossing Highway 77 Thursday near the Mall of America.
The Minnesota State Patrol says 23-year-old Asukile Younge suffered fatal injuries at 5 p.m. when he was hit by a 2005 Dodge Caravan traveling southbound on Highway 77. Authorities found him dead at the scene.
The driver of the Caravan, a 49-year-old Bloomington woman, was not hurt.
Authorities have not said why Younge was trying to cross the road in such a high-traffic area. Alcohol does not seem to be involved, police said.
According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Younge’s manner of death is an accident and the cause of death in multiple blunt force injuries.
The incident is still under investigation.
