Person Hit By Car, Killed Near MOA ID’d

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have identified the person who died after getting hit by a car while crossing Highway 77 Thursday near the Mall of America.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 23-year-old Asukile Younge suffered fatal injuries at 5 p.m. when he was hit by a 2005 Dodge Caravan traveling southbound on Highway 77. Authorities found him dead at the scene.

The driver of the Caravan, a 49-year-old Bloomington woman, was not hurt.

Authorities have not said why Younge was trying to cross the road in such a high-traffic area. Alcohol does not seem to be involved, police said.

According to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, Younge’s manner of death is an accident and the cause of death in multiple blunt force injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.

      • Dave is soooooooooo correct.

After posting what I just did, I wish I could retract it. That was incredibly insensetive and not funny. Wish he would have involved other people but he must have has some major problem.

Not funny dude! I remember this young man because his family went to church with us. His mother died from cancer several years ago, and now his twin sister is the sole survivor of her immediate family. Have some respect.

Thank you for saying that ma! I knew the family as well and he was a very polite young man. Praying for his sister and family right now. How we can make jokes about a life cut short is beyond me! People need to be more careful about what they say about others…you NEVER know what’s going to come to your house/family! How would people feel if everyone made fun of their dead relative? R.I.P. Suki!

I know him and his sister Shadae. Sukie was a really good man and a good friend of mine

By your logic, you should have been killed decades ago.

  • not quite

I don’t know that area. Is there a cross walk/stop lights? It sounds like he willy nilly ran across a highway. Nobody in their right mind would try to cross a highway at an uncontrolled section so there must be more to this story.

my MVTA bus heading south to Apple Valley passed this accident shortly after it happened – as I recall the accident was right by the big Target/Home Depot south of 62, north of 494 – to the west is Richfield – across Cedar is the airport –

for all intents and purposes Cedar is a 3 lane freeway in each direction here with a median – speed limit 55 no lights/no crosswalks –

Why anyone would be trying to cross Cedar here makes no sense

That isn’t exactly NEAR MOA. Great job CCO
