MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — Drivers beware — major delays and a detour is coming to the eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 in Minneapolis next weekend.

Eastbound I-94 will close from I-394 and Highway55/Hiawatha Avenue at 10 p.m. Friday, April 13. Ramp closures to and from I-94 will begin at 9 p.m. that same day.

During the full closure, drivers are advised to follow posted detours or use alternate routes.

In addition, the ramp from eastbound I-94 to Highway 55 will be closed.

All ramps and roadways will reopen by 5 a.m. Monday, April 16.

Crews will work to resurface the road as part of the I-94 improvement project.

According to MnDOT, “The I-94 improvement project between downtown Minneapolis and downtown St. Paul includes resurfacing, which will create a smoother ride for motorists and extend the lifespan of the roadway. The project also includes drainage improvements, bridge maintenance work, reconstruction of the shoulders, realignment of the lanes and Smart Lane technology to improve safety and congestion.”
