Twin Cities, Southern MN Under Tornado Watch

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – It could be an eventful day on the weather front across Minnesota after storms ripped through the Midwest on Saturday.

At least five people were killed and extensive damage was caused by more than 100 tornadoes that tore across Kansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Iowa. That same system is now headed towards Minnesota, and storms are likely.

There's a risk for large hail, heavy rain, damaging winds and a possibility for tornadoes that includes the Twin Cities, southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. Northern Minnesota could see several inches of snow with cooler temperatures in that area.

The National Weather Service issued severe thunderstorm warnings in southwestern Minnesota just after 3 p.m. There is also a tornado watch in effect for much of central and southern Minnesota until 11 p.m. Stay with wcco.com for all the latest weather updates.
