ND Man Killed While Walking On Train Tracks

MINOT, N.D. (AP) — Authorities say a 19-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a train while walking in Minot early Saturday morning.

Ward County Sheriff's officials say the victim was walking west on the tracks when a Burlington Northern train approached from the east. The man reportedly turned around and began walking away from the train, but did not get off the tracks as the train sounded its approach.

Authorities say the man was struck as the train attempted to stop. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened about 3:30 a.m. Saturday. Officials say the man had parked his truck on top of a hill and walked down a steep embankment onto the tracks.

The name of the victim has not been released.
