MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A man is dead after his motorcycle collided with an SUV Tuesday night in Minneapolis near Lake Calhoun, according to Minneapolis Police.
Sgt. Bill Palmer said the accident happened on the northwest corner of Lake Calhoun near the intersection of Excelsior Boulevard and West 32nd Street. That’s also close to the Minikahda Country Club.
Police said Excelsior Boulevard has been closed from France Avenue to Market Place as are feeder streets in the area to Lake Calhoun while the accident is being investigated.
Authorities said a motorcycle was traveling westbound when it was hit by an SUV traveling eastbound and turning onto 32nd Street.
Palmer said the victim was in ‘very critical” condition when he was transported to the Hennepin County Medical Center. At around 8:45 p.m., Palmer confirmed that the man died.
The area around the accident should be back open sometime after 9 p.m.
The driver of the SUV was not hurt, and the accident is under investigation, including whether drugs or alcohol played a factor.
