MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities have released the official cause of death in the case of former Gophers linebacker Gary Tinsley.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said Wednesday that Tinsley, 22, died of natural causes and an enlarged heart.
Tinsley was found by his roommate in his University of Minnesota dorm room back on April 6. At the time, authorities had ruled out foul play, drugs or alcohol as a possible cause of death.
Tinsley was one of the Gophers top defensive players in his final season with the team in 2011. He was second on the team in tackles in each of the last two seasons. He was set to graduate in May and was pursuing his dream of playing in the NFL.
