GARFIELD, Minn. (WCCO) — A 35-year-old Amery is dead after a crash in Garfield, Minn. Thursday night, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office says they received the report of the crash at 7:15 p.m. located in the 1700 block of 120th Avenue.
When deputies arrived, they observed a white 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix with front end damage facing westbound and a red 1999 Mercury Cougar on its roof, facing east. Both vehicles were in the south ditch.
An investigation revealed that the Grand Prix, driven by 50-year-old Douglas Wilberg of Amery, was eastbound on 120th Avenue. The Mercury, driven by Jeremy West of Amery, was westbound on 130th Avenue. West’s car was reported to be traveling at a high rate of speed and when his vehicle crested a hill, West lost control and collided with the Grand Prix.
Wilberg, who was wearing a seatbelt, received minor injuries.
West was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing his seatbelt.
Nobody else was involved in the crash, which remains under investigation.
This is the year’s fourth fatal crash in Polk County.
