ALBERT LEA, Minn. (WCCO) — An 8-year-old boy lost more than half his ear to a dog bite in Albert Lea, according to police.
At around 4:30 p.m. Saturday, police say a neighbor kid let a black lab out, or it escaped when the child was at the door. The victim was trying to help catch the neighbor’s dog when his ear was bitten near the 200 block of Pearl Street.
The boy was taken to the hospital, but his ear could not be reattached. He lost the top round half of his ear, police said.
The dog has been impounded and police say it will be declared dangerous, meaning the owners will have to get a fenced in yard, signs warning about the dog and insurance.
Police say the owners could also be ticketed for having a dog at large.
