Authorities Investigating Possible Baby Abuse In Brainerd

BRAINERD, Minn. (WCCO) -- Crow County authorities are investigating the suspected abuse of a baby who was rushed to the hospital after suffering a seizure.

On Thursday, the Crow County Sheriff's Office received an emergency call requesting medical assistance at a rural Brainerd residence. The caller said a 4-month-old baby was having a seizure.

When emergency crews responded, an ambulance transported the child to an emergency room at Essentia Hospital. The child was then transferred to St. Paul Children's Hospital by helicopter.

A day later, Children's Hospital reported to the Sheriff's Office that the child suffered an injury to the head and abuse was suspected. The child is being treated and remains at Children's Hospital.

The Sheriff's Office and the Crow Wing County Social Services are investigating.
