Minneapolis Named 2nd Best Biking City In U.S.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minneapolis is still considered one of the best biking cities in the country, according to just-released rankings from Bicycling Magazine.

The city ranked second among all urban areas in the nation, just behind Portland, Ore., which reclaimed the title.

"Cycling culture in Minneapolis is thriving," wrote the magazine, noting the city's continuing success with the Nice Ride bike-sharing program and its 35 new miles of bike lanes.

Coming in behind Portland and Minneapolis were Boulder, Colo., Washington D.C. and Chicago.

Among the cities that were listed by the magazine as big up-and-comers were Boston, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, Miami, and San Jose, Calif.

The magazine determines rankings based on available biking infrastructure, the availability of bike routes and what they term as an overall "vibrant bike culture."
