MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – On Thursday, the Minneapolis-native musician Prince turned 54 years old.
He may not celebrate his birthday any longer since becoming a Jehovah’s Witness, but that’s not stopping others from honoring the artist.
“I think Prince fans all over his native Minnesota will come out in force,” said Troy Whelan, director of sales and marketing at the Aloft Minneapolis Hotel. “He’s so unique in his musical style.”
This is the third year of the event sponsored by DJ Lenka Paris.
The first 100 people through the door will get a CD of Prince music. There will also be a Prince look-a-like surfing the crowd and a specialty drink named after Prince’s song “Housequake.”
The event kicks off Friday at 10:00 p.m. at the Aloft Hotel’s WXYZ Bar on 900 Washington Ave. South.
It’s free to attend, but organizers are asking for a donation which will go to Sheila E’s “Elevate Hope Foundation.”
