MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) — A 31-year-old woman has been charged with theft by swindle for allegedly stealing $5,700 while employed at the Grand Rapids Division of the Minnesota Department of Motor Vehicles.
Crystal Marie Wilson, of Deer River, pleaded guilty in Itasca County District Court. Her sentencing is set for Sept. 10.
According to the complaint, Wilson was suspected of taking money from motor vehicle titles paid for by the Grand Rapids Ford dealership, which were not processed by the DMV. Wilson worked the the titles for the Ford dealership.
On Nov. 3, 2011, 15 titles were presented by Rapids Ford — 11 were processed and four were not. The value of the missing titles was about $4,000. Records show that nearly $4,600 was received by Wilson in cash on that day.
Then on Nov. 22, 2011, 10 titles were presented — nine were processed but one was not. The missing title was values at $886.50. Similar incidents were recorded on Dec. 12, 2011.
After reviewing each case, it was determined that $5,728.25 of missing titles were received by Wilson in cash.
