OAKDALE, Minn. (WCCO) — A man was tasered and arrested after police say he told a bank employee that he had a bomb.
The incident occurred around 7:41 a.m. Wednesday at a Lake Elmo Bank on 600 Inwood Ave. The employee told police a man walked up to the outside drive-up window, said he had a device and demanded to speak to federal agents.
The bank and area businesses were evacuated. The man was later identified as Matthew Allen Klemmer, 45, of St. Paul.
Police say Klemmer was tasered and taken into custody around 8:11 a.m. He is currently in custody at the Washington County Jail, awaiting possible charges.
The St. Paul Bomb Squad was notified and arrived on scene to investigate. No one was injured in the incident. Police say the bomb squad removed a suspicious object from the scene. That item was tested by St. Paul bomb technicians but no explosive materials were located.
Businesses in the area were evacuated. The bank will likely be closed for the remainder of the day.
Investigation continues and police say they are looking into a possible motive for the threat.
