BRAINERD, Minn. (WCCO) – Police are investigating after a bicyclist was hit and killed in Baxter Tuesday night, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Authorities say the accident happened at about 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 371 and Excelsior Road. State patrol officials said a 2003 Ford pick-up truck was traveling northbound in the left lane of Highway 371 and going through the intersection with a green light.
The bicyclist was heading eastbound on Excelsior Road and was hit by the truck in the intersection. Authorities pronounced the victim dead at the scene. He was identified as 51-year-old Gregory P. Marsolek of Brainerd.
The driver of the pick-up truck, a 53-year-old from Bemidji, was not hurt in the accident. The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the accident with assistance from the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office.
