Minnesota Twins Announce They're Moving To FM Radio

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Twins made it official at an event Wednesday morning at Target Field: They're taking their radio broadcasts over to the FM dial. It will change the way thousands of baseball fans will listen to them on the radio.

Officials said the Twins will leave their current radio broadcast station, ESPN 1500 AM, at the end of the season. The station KTWIN 96.3 FM, which is owned by the Pohlad family that also owns the Twins, will be the new home for Twins baseball starting with the 2013 season. It's the first time in franchise history that the Twins will be featured exclusively on FM radio.

The switch to FM radio should please Twins fans who listen on the airwaves as the stronger signal will let fans listen more clearly at night. ESPN 1500 AM bought the rights to Twins baseball broadcasts five years ago. Despite losing the game broadcasts, ESPN 1500 AM will still host ancillary programming, including the "Ron Gardehnhire Show," "Inside Twins" and an off-season program called the "Hot Stove League."

KTWIN 96.3 FM will take over Twins pregame and post-game shows.

The announcement was made during a VIP breakfast with Twins fans and officials in attendance.
