EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings tied for the league lead last season in sacks, so opposing quarterbacks should’ve been flustered into forcing their share of bad throws.

But rarely did that happen against a depleted secondary.

The Vikings matched the NFL’s worst total with only eight interceptions in 2011, just seven of them by defensive backs.

That statistic that must be improved if the Vikings are going to put that 3-13 record of last year in the past, particularly in this increasingly pass-driven league.

The Vikings are banking on an influx of new players and the return of some others who missed time last season to make this more of a formidable group.
