LONG LAKE, Minn. (WCCO) – Family and friends gathered at Trinity Lutheran Church in Long Lake on Saturday to honor 38-year-old Officer Barry Pankonin, a 12-year veteran on the Fridley Police Department.

Pankonin was killed Tuesday when his motorcycle crashed near his home in Plymouth.

He was off-duty at the time of the crash. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Pankonin served as an officer and detective at the Fridley Police Force for more than 12 years. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard.
