Bacteria Levels Temporarily Close Wirth Lake Beach
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Theodore Wirth Lake Beach has been temporarily closed after the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board's regular sampling found that E. coli bacteria exceeded state specified guidelines for a single day.
The lake will be re-tested Wednesday.
While there have been no reports of any illness from swimmers, the MPRB routinely monitors and proactively closes its beaches if bacteria levels exceed state guidelines.
All other MPRB beaches are open. The temporary rise in bacteria levels is likely due to the increased amount of birds at the lake since the start of the migration season.
The MPRB posts all of its beach bacteria test results on its website.
