EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (WCCO) – One person suffered non-life-threatening injuries in a construction accident at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Eden Prairie.
Six people were working on the site for a new indoor sports facility, called Champion’s Hall, when the frame started falling.
Authorities say 10 steel beams were perched about 50 feet in the air. One of those beams gave way, crashing into another, causing a domino effect.
Eden Prairie assistant fire chief Tom Schmitz said there wasn’t enough time for one worker to get to safety.
“The steel was collapsing and came down on the lift where he was working,” Schmitz said.
The falling beams pinned him, causing minor injuries. The five other workers got out safely.
“It’s amazing. One person was injured with what are considered minor injuries compared to what it could have been,” said Schmitz.
Building inspectors are examining what caused the collapse.
