STILLWATER, Minn. (WCCO) — The Stillwater Lift Bridge closes Monday to all types of traffic for a repair project that will take months to complete, according to the Minnesota Department Of Transportation.

The historic bridge, which spans the St. Croix River between Stillwater and Houlton, closes Monday.

Repairs to most of the bridge beneath the driving surface began on July 9 and has been completed. Now, the attention turns to the sections above.

MnDOT says the rehabilitation to the bridge will focus on repairing steel connections , replacing and repairing mechanical and electrical components, repairing concrete surfaces, repairing floor beams, painting portions of the bridge and replacing guardrail, curb and gutter.

Motorists are advised to cross the St. Croix River at the Interstate 94 bridge at Hudson, Wis. or the Highway 243 Bridge at Osceola, Wis.
