RIVER FALLS, Wis. (WCCO) – Authorities are investigating after a 12-year-old child was run over by a school bus in River Falls, Wis. Friday afternoon.
According to the River Falls Police Department, the incident happened at about 5 p.m. near Main Street and West Cascade Avenue.
Sgt. Jon Aubart said the bus was going northbound on Main Street and turning left onto Cascade Avenue, and 12-year-old Jacob Wheeler was walking across Cascade Avenue.
The center of the bus hit the child, and the bus’ rear tires ran over the child’s lower extremities, Aubart said.
Wheeler suffered significant injuries and was taken to Regions Hospital.
The bus driver, who was not named, may not be cited because the driver had the right of way, according to Aubart, but the investigation is still ongoing.
